What it can access

Useful to designers and developers, not a general participant need. Expose a copied public design, never a file containing unconsented photos or unpublished campaign details.
Do you need it?
Only if a designer or developer needs structured context from Figma. Communications participants creating ordinary graphics should use Canva or Figma directly.
Capability and permissions
Figma’s official MCP provides design context and supports workflows that can write native Figma content. Authentication or the local desktop connection exposes the selected or accessible design material.
Least-privilege setup
As of 2026-09-01, follow Figma’s official MCP documentation for the current remote or desktop setup. Work in a duplicated public file with a non-admin account. Exclude libraries and projects the task does not need.
Harmless success test
Use a file containing one invented card component. Ask the client to describe spacing and text styles. If write tools are enabled, create one clearly named test frame only.
Disable, revoke, remove
Turn off the MCP connection in Figma or the desktop app, remove it from the AI client, revoke authorisation in Figma, and delete the test file or frame.
When not to connect
Do not connect files containing unconsented photos, unreleased campaigns, private user research, access details, or protected locations.
