What it can access
OAuth inherits access to connected spreadsheets and can allow cell edits.

Developer Preview. Test on a copied sheet with invented records. Protect formula columns and compare totals before accepting changes.
Do you need it?
Connect only if a repeated spreadsheet workflow justifies write access. For a one-off calculation, use a copied file or a reviewed formula.
Capability and permissions
The server can read values and, when authorised, write cells. A wrong action can overwrite formulas, identifiers, dates, or an entire range.
Least-privilege setup
As of 2026-09-01, Google’s Workspace MCP servers remain Developer Preview. Connect a workshop account to one copied sheet containing synthetic data. Protect formula columns, remove external links, and keep the original outside the account.
Harmless success test
Use five invented rows. Ask the client to write a new status column without touching existing columns. Compare the sheet and version history row by row.
Disable, revoke, remove
Disconnect in the AI client, revoke Google Account access, remove the account from the sheet, and delete the test copy.
When not to connect
Do not connect donor, beneficiary, payroll, survey, case, or contact data. Do not connect a sheet if nobody can verify formulas and totals.
