Following legislation, courts and gazettes

Laws, court decisions and the official gazette are where a great deal of accountability work starts. They are published irregularly, often as scanned images rather than searchable text, and almost never with a notification you can subscribe to. Someone has to go and look.

AI helps with the second half of that, not the first. It will not tell you that something was published. Once you have the text in front of you it can say quickly what changed and which articles touch your work. The looking stays a person’s job: half an hour a week in one named person’s calendar, on the three sources that genuinely matter to you.

Watch out for this

An AI summary of a law is a lead, not a legal reading. These tools confuse dates, merge two versions of an amendment, and state confidently that a clause exists when it does not. Anything you will act on, a submission, a public statement, advice to a partner, has to be checked against the gazette itself, not a news article about the gazette.
