Do not paste a witness statement, a legal filing, or any document containing real names, exact addresses, or ID numbers into the free DeepL Translator or free API tier. DeepL's own terms say that tier may be used to train its systems and explicitly forbid using it for confidential or personal data. DeepL Pro, a paid plan, does not retain or train on submitted text.
A safer tool to use instead
DeepL translates text and whole document files between languages. It is widely rated among the most accurate services available, and it added Arabic in 2024.
Its output reads smoothly whether or not it is correct. A mistranslated clause in a legal filing looks exactly like a correct one, so anything carrying legal or safety weight still needs a person who reads both languages.
The free translator and the paid DeepL Pro are not the same product where your text is concerned. DeepL’s own terms forbid putting confidential or personal data through the free one.

DeepL's own terms state its Free service may process submitted text and documents, and corrections made to suggested translations, "to train and improve its neural networks and algorithms," and that the Free service must not be used for text containing confidential or personal data. DeepL Pro (a paid plan) states submitted text is not permanently stored and is not used to improve the service.

Access in Iraq

DeepL does not publish a country allowlist or blocklist; no report of it being blocked in Iraq was found. As with other paid SaaS tools, organisations in the region report that Iraqi-issued cards are often declined for DeepL Pro; this is a widely reported pattern, not documented DeepL policy. Free use of the translator needs no account or card.

Arabic (Modern Standard)
DeepL added Arabic as a supported language in 2024 and describes it as Modern Standard Arabic (https://www.deepl.com/en/blog/meet-deepl-for-arabic-speakers), but DeepL does not publish a per-language accuracy or quality score, and no independent benchmark was run for this entry. Untested: supported is not the same claim as measured quality.
Iraqi Arabic
DeepL translates Modern Standard Arabic, not spoken dialects; no dialect-specific support or benchmark exists. Untested.
Kurdish (Sorani)
Kurdish does not appear on DeepL's published list of supported languages as of this entry's verification date. Untested.
